Agri scientists introduce two new sugarcane varieties

ISLAMABAD: The agriculture scientists have introduced two new sugarcane varieties for commercial cultivation in Sindh which possess high cane yield and sugar recovery potential.

The varieties developed by National Sugar and Tropical Horticulture Research Institute (NSTHRI) Thatta include Thatta-2109 and Thatta-326.

Chairman Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) Dr. Nadeem Amjad congratulated Dr. Abdul Fatah Soomro, Director NSTHRI Thatta and his team for introducing the new sugarcane varieties.

Chairing a meeting of scientists here, Amjad said that the new sugarcane varieties possess high cane yield and sugar recovery potential and a good addition in existing pool of commercial sugarcane varieties in Sindh as well as in the country.

It is pertinent to mention here that the varieties were approved by the Sindh Provincial Seed Council in its meeting held under the chairmanship of Minister for Agriculture Sindh, according to PARC press statement.

The newly released sugarcane varieties were developed from exotic fuzz of Hoama, USA and are a good addition in existing pool of commercial sugarcane varieties in Sindh.
