Rangers nab gang of swindlers

KARACHI: The Pakistan Rangers Sindh have nabbed an organized group of swindlers who were demanding `bhatta' (extortion money) of Rs 10 million from a resident of Boat Basin.

The Rangers, in a statement here on Saturday, said after receipt of complaints, they initiated technical monitoring and ground surveillance and arrested the seven-member gang. Gang leader was identified as Shafiq. The swindlers extorted money from people in the name of senior officers of different departments.

Upon receipt of complaints, the special teams of the Rangers after three months' efforts arrested the gang.

The statement said that the gang members used imported calling cards and phoned the people posing as senior officers.

It said that in some 18 cases, the gang members extorted millions of rupees.

The `bhatta' money and weapons were recovered from the gang members.

After necessary legal action the gang members would be handed over to the police.

The Pakistan Rangers Sindh asked the people not to be disturbed because of swindlers and immediately inform Rangers helpline 1101 or sms or inform the nearest Rangers headquarters.
