Senate resumes debate on Panama leaks

ISLAMABAD: Senators on Tuesday resuming debate on Panama leaks have demanded impartial and credible investigation which is acceptable to people of the country.

Participating the debate, Senator Dr. Jhanzeb Jamaldini demanded that empowered and neutral commission should investigate Panama leaks.

He said that nobody should be allowed to launder money from the country.

Senator Usman Kakar proposed legislation to stop investment in foreign countries for at least 10 years. He said that all political parties inside the parliament should pledge to resist any undemocratic move to derail democracy.

Senator Mir Kabeer said that all political parties should decide about investigation of Panama leaks.

Senator Mohsin Aziz demanded constitution of judicial commission under the Chief Justice of Supreme Court and assisted by domestic and foreign audit and forensic companies expert in white-collar crimes. Senator Saeed Hassan Mandokhel said parliamentary committee should decided about terms of reference (TORs) for investigation Panama leaks.

Senator Farhatullah Babar said that bi-partisan committee of the parliament be made to investigate the Panama leaks and made public its investigation.

He said that parliament should deiced about TORs of the of the commission and inquiry.

Senator Hasil Bazenjo observed the gap between the parliament and people has increased, adding that all political parties should sit-gather for holding credible information of Panama leaks acceptable to people.

He said that indulging in blame-game in the wake of Panama would serve only cause of anti-democratic forces, adding parliament and government must show maturity.
