Promotion of smart agriculture needed: Bosan

LAHORE: Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Sikandar Hayat Bosan has said that the government is going to start different projects worth more than Rs 54,932 million for the progress and development of different areas of agriculture.

He stated this while presiding over a meeting held in connection with the progress and development of agriculture of the country on Tuesday.

He said that after the 18th Amendment the agriculture had become a provincial subject and the role of all provinces for the promotion of agriculture was essential.

He further said that such projects should be made for more than 93 percent small farmers which would help them in reducing cost of production besides increasing per acre production of their crops.

He said that consultation between federal and provincial government was continuously underway to achieve these objectives.

He said that promotion of smart agriculture was need of the hour keeping in the changing weather conditions.

Provincial Minister for Agriculture Dr Farrukh Javed said that Punjab government was taking all possible measures for the promotion of agriculture.

He said that strengthen of small farmers in the country has crossed 8 million and it was steps were required with which small farmers could increase per acre production of their crops.

He said that research departments should prepare such varieties which could give more yield and resistant against diseases, insects and could bear weather change.
