Senate body for elaborate plan to counter environmental threats

ISLAMABAD: The Senate Functional Committee on Problems of Less Developed Areas on Tuesday urged all the stakeholders for devising an effective strategy to combat the possible consequences of climate change.

The committee, which met here with Senator Muhammad Usman Khan Kakar in the chair, also stressed for allocation of more funds to counter environmental changes.

It was observed to prepare a plan for possible floods in the country and pay more heed towards less developed areas facing problems due to various climate changes.

The committee expressed its concern over deforestation as the number of trees were being cut in huge number in the country.

The committee also directed the National Disaster Management Authority Pakistan (NDMA) to provide more assistance to other departments related to climate change.
