WHO to launch women empowerment programs

MULTAN: World Health Organizations (WHO), technical advisor for disabilities and rehabilitation, Dr Maryam Malick said on Thursday that various programmes were being launched at district level to empower women with disabilities soon.

She suggested that maximum disable people organizations (DPOs) should be established for the capacity building of these people. She said that training sessions would also be conducted for people with disabilities.

Dr Maryum expressed these views while addressing the national convention on rights of women with disabilities.

She urged the participants to introduce self-help groups or set-up small organizations and get themselves registered at UC, tehsil and district level for getting funds.

Director Programme Punjab Welfare Department, Izhar-ul-Haq Hashmi said that government was taking practical steps for the welfare of special persons. Terming persons with disabilities best human resource, he said that they could boost their country's economy by utilizing their hidden capabilities.

PML (N) MPA Khoula Amjad, DO social welfare Nasreen Jaffery and others also spoke on the occasion.

Various handmade products made by special women were put on display in the national convention.
