Dadu City on red alert: floodwaters inundate Mehar town

AAMIR MAJEED KARACHI (September 07 2010): Devastating about 540 villages of Mehar town in District Dadu, a strong current of floodwater, gushing from the embankments of bloated River Indus, entered Mehar City on Monday. Sindh Irrigation Department has put Dadu City on red alert and the residents have been asked to be ready for any uneven situation. The provincial government has asked the district administration to shift all the records of government departments of Dadu to Hyderabad.

Besides, 360 prisoners in Dadu Central Jail were shifted to Hyderabad and Karachi jails. During the last four days, 1140 villages of District Dadu were washed away by the flood. As many as 540 villages of Mehar town, 250 of Johi town and 350 villages along with Khairpur-Nathan Shah flooded with seven-feet water. The floodwater encircled Mehar and Johi towns and advancing towards Dadu City.
