1700 consent letters issued to allotees: NA told

ISLAMABAD: Parliamentary Secretary for Housing and Works Sajid Mehdi Thursday informed the National Assembly that some 3600 applications were received for Bhara Kahu Housing Scheme Phase-1 and around 1700 consent letters have been issued to the allotees.

Responding to a Calling Attention Notice raised by Khalida Mansoor and Surriya Asghar regarding non-issuance of allotment letters for Bhara Kahu Housing Scheme Phase-1 and non-commencement of Phase-11 by the Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation, he said land was purchased for the scheme in 2009. However, the Apex Court took suo motu notice and the case was decided in 2013, he added.

He said the contractor did not fulfill the agreement and approached the high court.

Sajid Mehdi said the contractor has to provide 3000 plots under the agreement. However, there were only 2400 plots available as per the NESPAK survey, he added.

He expressed the hope that an agreement is likely to be inked with the contractor in next 2 months under the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) cover for provision of remaining plots.

The Secretary said efforts were being made to acquire more 21,000 kanal of land and 7000 kanals have already been obtained.
