Shahbaz for coping with epidemic diseases

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif Tuesday reviewed the steps taken with regard to treatment, preventive measures and controlling any epidemic diseases.

Presiding over a meeting here, he said that the health department should remain ever alert for coping with AH1N1 influenza.

He said that every human life was precious and concerned departments should discharge their duties efficiently, adding Allah Almighty has the power over life and death, however, sincere efforts are the responsibility of concerned institutions and departments.

He said that the Health Department should have taken timely and effective steps for eradication of seasonal flu, adding that the system for eradication of epidemic diseases should move automatically.

He directed that a vigorous campaign should be launched for creating awareness among the people about preventive measures and protection from seasonal flu.

He said that all necessary steps should be taken for eradicating seasonal flu according to the recommendations of WHO.

He said that best treatment facilities should be ensured in the hospitals for the patients suffering from this disease.

Shehbaz said that availability of medicines should be ensured at every

cost and there should be separate wards in government hospitals for the treatment of patients suffering from seasonal flu.

He said that Punjab government had given the biggest budget of the history of the province for public health, therefore, desired results with regard to provision of quality treatment facilities to the people should be achieved form this historic budget.

He directed to constitute an emergency committee headed by Advisor Health Kh. Salman Rafiq and added that the committee should hold meeting daily at 8.00 am to review the situation of seasonal flu and take steps for treatment and eradication of this disease.

The CM said that he will personally monitor the steps being taken for treatment, preventive measures and eradication of seasonal flu, adding that all out resources should be utilized for the treatment and eradication of seasonal flu.

He said that the awareness campaign regarding preventive measures should be continued and immediate implementation of the decisions should be ensured. Advisor Health Kh. Salman Rafiq, spokesman Punjab government Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Chief Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal, Secretary Health, Vice Chancellor King Edward Medical University, Director General Health Services Punjab and concerned officers were also present in the meeting.
