Mehnaz Begum's 3rd death anniversary observed

ISLAMABAD: The third death anniversary of legendary Pakistani singer Mehnaz Begum was observed on Tuesday as her fans remembered her contributions in the field of singing.

Born in 1958, Mehnaz received initial training in music from her mother Kajjan Begum, a distinguished singer and started working in the film industry as a playback singer in 70s.

She became an instant hit due to her harmonious and melodic voice as her control over `sur' made her popular among music composers and music lovers.

She is known for singing a variety of genres but she was specialized in ghazal, thumri, dadra, khayal and reciting salam, noha and marsiya. Mehnaz sang over 2,500 songs for radio, television, and films including many hit songs like `Mujhe dil se na Bhulana' from film `Aina'.

Rembering singers on their birth and death anniversaries keep their memories alive while the work of such artistes keep them alive in the hearts of their fans, said an official of Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA).

The songs sungs by Mehnaz will keep introducing the coming generations about various styles of singing and she will be remembered for long for her services to the music and film industry in Pakistan, he said.
