Sindh police lost 90 cops in its crackdown against criminals in 2015

KARACHI: Ninety personnel of Sindh Police department lost their lives in 2015 in realization of their professional obligations, protecting citizens against criminals.

According to the annual performance report of the department issued on Thursday 67 of these police officers and jawan were martyred in Karachi; Two in Hyderabad; Six in Mirpurkhas; Four in Benazirabad; Two in Sukkur and Nine in Larkana.

Ghayas uddin Rashdi, Assistant Inspector General of Operations - Sindh Police presenting the report to IGP - Sindh, Ghulam Hyder Jamali, said police had staged 3286 encounters in the given year.

These encounters led to killing of 753 criminals besides arrest of 12235 encompassing terrorists, target killers and dacoits.

Heavy cache of arms and ammunition retrieved from the criminals included 20 LMGs, 11 G-3 Rifles, 380 SMGs/Klashinkovs, 9089 pistols/ revolvers/mousers, 295 rifles, 964 shot guns/ repeaters, 526 Kg explosive material, 32 suicide jackets, six improvised explosive devices, 688 hand grenades and 762 avon and ball bombs.

AIG - Operations, Ghayasuddin Rashdi said due to stringent policing and improved performance of the department a 53pc decline was noticed in the incidence of murder and arson, 80pc in terrorism related cases, 98pc in abduction for ransom and 53pc for extortion across the province.

It was mentioned that policing plan devised for 2015 was finalized after extensive deliberations and discussions with the trade bodies and members of civil societies active in the province.
