PAC, PSOA meeting held

LAHORE: A meeting of Parents Action Committee (PAC) and Private Schools Owners Association (PSOA) was held here Tuesday.

The meeting presided over by Provincial Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmed agreed upon the way of categorization of private schools for resolving the rate of increase in fees.

The schools will be authorized to make fixed annual increase in fees with regard to their category.

Ordinance of keeping the fees of private institutions at the level of 2014 is enforced and no educational institution is authorized to receive more amount than the fees of 2014 level, the meeting said.

Secretary Education, Commissioner Lahore, DCO Lahore and MD Punjab Education Foundation were also present on the occasion.

Rana Mashhood said that private school owners cannot be granted permission to enhance fees at their own as if they continued to increase fees with the present rate then it will be impossible for the parents to pay increased fees during next three to four years.

He said that common private schools have also made improper increase in fees on the pattern of elite schools, adding action is being taken against private educational institutions not implementing the ordinance of maintaining fees at 2014 level.

The meeting also discussed proposals to condition the fees of private schools with the increase of salaries of government employees and inflation rate.

The minister made it clear that no private educational institution will increase fees during the current educational year. He said that fees will be determined after categorization of private schools.

He said that before the start of next educational year, work of categorization of private schools will be completed.

He said that along with removing reservations of parents, government does not want to create hurdles in the development of private sector.

He said that government is also going on public private partnership mode and planning has been made for the promotion of education with the cooperation of private sector.
