Sundar factory architects remanded

LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) Tuesday handed over two architects who were among main nominated accused in Sundar Industrial Estate factory collapse case, to police on seven days physical remand.

Earlier, police produced accused architects Tahir Mehmood and Rana Munir Hussain before ATC-II Judge Khawaja Zafar Iqbal.

Police apprised the court that the accused finalised the building plan of collapsed factory and were nominated in the case. The court was requested to hand over the accused for investigation on physical remand.

The court accepting the request handed over the accused to police on seven days physical remand and directed to produce them again on expiry of remand term.

The police had arrested the accused architects on Monday in a case registered under terrorism, murder and attempt to murder charges against five people on the complaint of Sundar Industries Officer Azhar Husain.

The nominated accused include factory owner Rana Ashraf, building's architects Tahir and Munir, structure engineers Ahmad Riaz and Muhammad Husain

At least 46 workers were killed and more than 103 injured when the roof of the four-storey Rajput Polyester Factory collapsed on November 4.
