8.07mn Pakistanis settled abroad

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Overseas Pakistani and Human Resource Development Division Pir Syed Sadaruddin Shah Rashidi on Wednesday apprised the Senate that there were 8.07 million Pakistanis settled and residing abroad.

Replying to a question during Question Hour, he said that the information regarding number of those who were nationality holders of those countries or otherwise, not available with the ministry.

Giving the break up the minister said that as many as 71,000 Pakistani were settled in Afghanistan,, 100,000 in Australia, 10,000 in Austria, 110,000 in Bahrain, 15,000 in Bekgium, 175,000 in Canada, 14,000 in China, 35,000 in Denmark, 104,000 in France, 90,513 in Germany, 70,000 in Greece, 10, 000 in India, 18,780 in Hong Kong, 7,000 in Iran, 119,331 in Italy, 12,000 in Ireland, 11,119 in Japan, 14,000 in Jordan, 114, 142 in Kuwait, 12,000 in Libya, 100,000 in Malaysia, 35,000 in Netherlands, 38,000 Norway, 238,556 in Oman, 107,000 in Qatar, 3,560 in Russia, 2,100,000 in Saudi Arabia, 4,600 in Singapore, 100,000 in South Africa, 11,209 in South Korea, 82,000 in Spain, 14,000 in Sweden, 65,000 in Thailand, 1,300,000 UAE, 1,792,000 in UK and 900,000 in USA.

To a supplementary question, the minister said that overseas private promoters sent people to various countries for employment.
