10,000 schools to be shifted to solar energy in Punjab: Minister

LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan has said that 10,000 schools are being shifted to solar energy in Punjab.

Presiding over a departmental meeting here Monday, he said that 5,000 schools are situated in such areas where there is no electricity whereas 5,000 other schools have also been included in this project.

He said that continuous provision of electricity in government schools set up in far-flung areas is need of the hour, adding the students will avail the facility of electricity by shifting these schools to solar energy and it is also a cheaper source.

The minister said that required funds have been transferred to EDOs of those districts where schools in villages are being shifted to solar energy and this project will be completed during the current financial year.

He said that promotion of education is the important point of development vision of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

He said that education department is making strenuous efforts for providing basic amenities in schools, preparing syllabus according to modern demands and arranging foreign study tours for position holder male and female students to spread knowledge and eliminate illiteracy under 'Parho Punjab Barho Punjab' programme.

He said that after provision of free textbooks, education department has also started work on the project of providing school bags and stationary boxes to the children free of cost and the students will benefit from this facility in the beginning of next academic year.
