18 Sep, 2015

ISLAMABAD: Senate Special Committee on the issue of lapse of various foreign scholarships offered by different countries for the student of Pakistan was held here on Friday.

The Chairman of the committee Senator Syed Muzafar Hussain Shah asked the Economic Affairs Division, Foreign Affairs and Higher Education Commission (HEC) to present details of these scholarships.

The committee also asked the institutions to give details of the scholarships offered between 2011 to 2015.

The chairman of the committee took notice in delay of the advertisement process of these scholarships and asked HEC to advertise these scholarships as soon as possible.

Chairman HEC informed the committee that currently there were five ministries, receiving these scholarships. He suggested the committee to build a main focal point to receive all scholarships at one place rather than in different points and suggested that the ministry of education is best option in this regard.

The committee was told that there is lack of a mechanism to manage these scholarships therefore many scholarships were wasted.

The Chairman HEC informed the committee that there was no lapse in these scholarships.

The committee decided that there should be a focal point in the ministry of education so that donors could send scholarships at one point.
