LAHORE: A three-member bench of the Supreme Court Monday issued notices to the prosecution on bail applications filed by two accused involved in a ransacking case during Kot Radha kishan incident.

The bench headed by Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry heard the applications filed by Nisar Ahmad and Muhammad Akram at the Supreme Court Lahore Registry.

During the hearing, the petitioners' counsels arguing before the court submitted that the police had registered a case against the accused, wherein it was alleged that they caused damage to properties during the Kot Radha Kishan incident.

They mentioned that the accused were not involved in killing of couple but despite the fact, they were behind the bars for last ten months.

They pleaded the bench to grant benefit of the bail to the accused.

However, an additional prosecutor general submitted that the accused were involved in ransacking and the joint investigation team in its report mentioned that they played active role.

At this stage, the court criticised the police performance during Kot Radha Kishan incident and observed that the police witnessed the whole incident as spectator.

Additional prosecutor submitted that only five police officials including an ASI were present on the scene, whereas the mob strength was about 500 persons.

He submitted that the ASI was terminated whereas departmental action had been taken against the remaining officials on negligence.

He said the police tried to stop the mob but they were tortured.

However, the court observed that the police fabricated the tale to save itself.

The additional prosecutor requested the court to grant time for detailed arguments.

At this, the bench adjourning the further hearing issued notice to prosecution.
