KARACHI: An overall improvement is registered in the condition of Abdul Rasheed Godial, the MQM leader severely injured in a gun attack Tuesday.

He is no more dependent on artificial breathing and has been removed from ventilator since last night, said a spokesman of Liaquat National Hospital, Anjum Rizvi in a press briefing Friday.

Mentioning that condition of the politician can, however, not be cited out of danger, he said that Godial is mentally alert yet unable to speak.

MQM leader was said to be under surveillance of an 18 member team of doctors headed by neurosurgeon and LNH director Salman Faridi.

Being a diabetic and also a heart patient is believed to have aggravated his condition yet timely medical assistance in the first few hours of incident helped in any unnecessary damage.

Godial is required to remain in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for a few more days due to bullet injury caused to his lung.

This was besides those that affected his face and neck, however, were reportedly not very severe.
