Around 0.7mn people affected due to rains: NDMA

ISLAMABAD: Spokesperson of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Ahmed Kamal has said that around 0.7 million people from Punjab and Sindh were affected due to monsoon rains in the country.

Talking to Radio Pakistan, Ahmed Kamal said that at least 109 people have died so far due to monsoon rains in the country and mostly deaths were reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

He said that more severe rains are expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Northern areas due to which flood-like situation could be emerged in rivers, streams and nullahs.

He added that there is medium level flood at Kalabagh and Chashma points as water level is increasing in Indus River after increasing the level of water in Kabul River.

High level flood is at Guddu and Sukker points of Indus River and several areas of Kachay of district Kandh Kot are under water, He said.

He said that district Chitral of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa affected badly due to monsoon rains however restoration work is under way in the district.
