Medium range of flood registered at Guddu, Sukkur Barrages: Spokesman

KARACHI: Medium range of flood is passing through different barrages in the province while all needed measures have been adopted for protection of embankments around River Indus, said a spokesman of Sindh Irrigation Department on Friday.

It was said that monitoring of sensitive river banks have been expedited to avert any untoward situation consequent to rising levels in water gushing from upper areas and also due to monsoon showers.

Sharing details of the river flow for the day, the spokesman said medium level flood has been registered at Guddu barrage with upstream water flow recorded to be 446971 cusec and down-stream 426565 cusec.

Sukkur barrage was also found to be exposed to medium range of flood with upstream water flow registered to be 335776 cusec and down-stream 301106 cusec.

As for Kotri barrage it was said the situation was normal with up stream flow coming to 139050 cusec and down-stream 129645 cusec.

The spokesman said as per directives of the Sindh Minister for Information and Irrigation, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro an alert has been declared at all barrages and embankments so as to efficiently handle emergency situation.
