Drive for removal of illegal, sub-standard billboards continue

KARACHI: The drive continued in the city during the Eid holidays for the removal of illegal,sub-standard and damaged billboards and hoardings, on the directives of Commissioner/Administrator Karachi, Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui.

A Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) statement on Tuesday said that some 250 such hoardings were removed from Saddar, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, North Nazimabad and other areas.

Thousands of banners and posters were also removed that were affecting the beauty of the metropolis. Illegal and sub-standard hoardings were also removed from the Karsaz Road.

After the Eid ul Fitr holidays the drive would be intensified further, the KMC statement added.

The Administrator directed the Local Taxes Department to remove illegal, sub-standard hoardings and repaid the damaged ones so that they should not fall during monsoon rains and winds and thus people be saved from any damage or injuries.

The KMC statement said that no illegal or sub-standard hoardings, billboards would be allowed in the city.

The advertising companies and advertisers should ensure regular maintenance of their hoardings. The KMC would extend its cooperation in this regard.

The KMC's Department of Local Taxes has asked the advertising firms and advertisers to check their billboards and hoardings in the wake of the monsoon and remove those that may prove dangerous for the people.

In case any hoardings fall, the advertisers would be held responsible for negligence, it was further stated.
