Monfils, Simon play one match on two courts

LONDON: French stars Gael Monfils and Gilles Simon started their Wimbledon third round clash on Court One on Saturday before it was switched to a conclusion beneath the lights and roof of Centre Court.

With the light fading and the match still in a fourth set, officials suspended action at just after 9:00pm (2000GMT), shortly before sunset.

But with no play on the middle Sunday at the All England Club, the match was shifted so that the winner would have time to recuperate in time for their scheduled last-16 clash on Monday.

Simon was leading 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (8/6), 1-2 when action moved to Centre Court.

Play can continue in the 15,000-seater venue until an agreed 11:00pm curfew.
