Rooting out criminals basic duty of police: CM

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said controlling and rooting out criminal elements is a basic duty of police.

He said this while presiding over a meeting here Thursday which reviewed various proposals for reforms in police system, change of Thana culture and improvement of efficiency of police.

Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said protection of life and property of people and redressal of their grievances were prime responsibilities of police. He said police would have to come up to new demands and public aspirations. He said that grievances of common man should be redressed in police stations.

The chief minister said a common man was the pivot of proposed reforms in police system whose grievances should be redressed in police stations. He said strict system of accountability of police was also necessary.

He said useful proposals had been presented for an improvement in police system and directed that final recommendations should be submitted in the light of these proposals.
