Commission constituted to probe killings of TDPs in Bakakhel camp, NA told

ISLAMABAD: Minister for State and Frontier Regions (SEFRON) Lieutenant General (Retd) Abdul Qadar Baloch on Thursday informed the National Assembly that an enquiry commission has been constituted to probe the killings of two Temporary Displaced Persons (TDPs) in Bakakhel camp.

Speaking in the National Assembly, he said, the incident took place on Tuesday evening at the time of Iftar due to congestion in the camp. He assured the House that the responsible of the incident would be brought to the book.

He said that officials of civil and military are jointly conducting the investigations of the unfortunate incident and the House would be informed regarding the incident soon after the receipt of investigation report. Sharing the details of the incident with the House, he said, that at entry point of the camp, the TDP protesters started throwing stones on the soldiers deployed there to protect and provide facilities to them.

The Minister said that two TDPs were killed due to aerial firing by the troops to disperse the protesters.

He disagreed that the number of TDPs killed in the camp was more than two. Immediately after the protests, he said two Brigadiers of Pak Army reached on the spot and settled the issue peacefully.

Qadar Baloch said that, around 22,000 IDPs are residing in the Bakakhel camp and people are pleased from the soldiers of Pakistan army deployed there to protect them.

Earlier, speaking on a point of order, chief of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party Mehmood Khan Acakzai demanded intimation to the House on the reported firing incident on TDPs.

Muhammad Jamal Uddin from FATA asked for free and fair enquiry of the incident at earliest. Later Jamal Uddin led Fateha for departed souls of the people killed in the camp.
