ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court issued notices on Monday to the respondents in plea challenging the upcoming Local Bodies LB elections in the capital territory for July 17.

A two-judge division bench, comprising Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi and Justice Aamer Farooq, issued notices on the petition filed by four residents of the ICT to restrain the federal government and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from conducting LB elections in the capital till legal ambiguity was addressed.

The petitioners through their counsel Mubeenuddin Qazi had challenged the April 27 notification regarding delimitation and structure of the Local Government in ICT.

They further requested the court to declare the delimitation process initiated by the ECP for Local Government elections in ICT illegal and unconstitutional until the ICT LG Act bill is passed by the senate.

The court issued notices to the Attorney General of Pakistan as well as the officials of the ECP, and ICT while seeking their reply within fortnight.
