ECP takes notice for not giving women to cast vote in PK-95: NA told

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Sheikh Aftab Ahmed on Tuesday informed the National Assembly that Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken Suo Moto action for not giving women voters their right to franchise in by-elections in PK-95, Dir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).

Replying to a Calling Attention Notice moved by Shazia Marri, Dr Nafisa Shah, Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho and Shaista Pervaiz, Sheikh Aftab said that ECP summoned Chief Secretary KPK and other concerned official in this regard.

The Minister said it was done through an agreement between both the contesting candidates of the political parties in the constituency to stop women voter from using their right of franchise.

Sheikh Aftab said that the government would ensure that women voters are not stopped from using their right of franchise, adding that casting vote was basic right of every eligible voter and they cannot be stopped from this right.

He informed the House that ECP has also stopped the notification of PK-95 and an inquiry report of the incident

would be presented in the National Assembly.
