Zafar Jhagra elected as Senate Committee Chairman

ISLAMABAD: Senator Iqbal Zafar Jhagra was unanimously elected as Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Water and Power here on Friday.

The meeting was convened on the Senate chairman's directives as contemplated by Rule 1984 (1) for procedure and conduct of business in the Senate, 2012. Rule 175 (1) of the said Rules requires that the Chairman of each Committee shall be elected by the Committee from amongst its members.

Senator Iqbal Zafar Jhagra's name was proposed by Senator Hilal-ur-Rehman and was seconded by Senator Mualana Atta-ur-Rehman and Senator Taj Haider.

The newly elected Chairman thanked members for reposing confidence in him. He vowed to work with team spirit and make the committee effective.

He hoped that members would make meaningful contributions during committee meetings.

The newly elected chairman said that the Committee would give recommendations for the improvement of power situation in the country.

He said that particularly during the month Ramazan, loadshedding hours should be decreased to facilitate the masses.

The members of the Committee congratulated the newly elected Chairman and vowed to work with team spirit.

Senator Hilal-ur-Rehman, Senator Mualana Atta-ur-Rehman, Senator Taj Haider, Senator Ghous Muhammad Khan Niazi, Senator Muhammad Zafarullah Khan Dhandla and Senator Ahmed Hassan attended the meeting.
