Garments exports witness 8.51pc increase during first three quarters

ISLAMABAD: The country's garments exports posted 8.51 percent growth during first three quarters of current financial year as compared to the corresponding period of last year.

About 22,843 thousand dozen of ready made garments worth US$ 1.54 billion were exported during from July 2014-March 2015 against 21,434 thousand dozens valuing US$ 1.42 billion of same period of last financial year.

According to the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, knitwear exports witnessed 7.54 percent increase and reached at 81,650 thousand pairs against 80,310 thousand dozen of same period of last year.

The country earned US$ 1.791 billion by exporting the knitwear during the period this year and US$ 1.66 billion last year, the data revealed.

Towels exports increased by 1.75 percent as about 120,862 metric tons of towels worth US$ 579.588 million were exported against 123,394 metric tons valuing US$ 569.614 million last year.

Similarly, exports of tents, canvas and tarpaulin also registered an increase of 82.01 percent to 36,466 metric tons worth US$ 105.614 million against 21,691 metric tons valuing US$58 million last year.

However, the exports of bed wear decreased by 2.40 percent during the period under review and recorded at 238,277 metric tons against 240,251 metric tons last year.

It may be recalled that textile exports witnessed decrease of 1.57 percent during last nine months as compared to same period of last year whereas exports of other textile material increased by 2.39 percent.
