PARIS: The International Energy Agency named US diplomat Paul Simons as its new deputy executive director on Tuesday, just months after naming Turkish economist Fatih Birol in the executive director role.

Simons has served since 2011 as executive secretary of the Inter American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD), where he coordinates drug policy and criminal justice reform initiatives for the 34 members of the Organization of American States. Before that he was the US Ambassador to Chile.
