Active role of women must for development: CM

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said targets of development cannot be achieved without bringing women into the national mainstream.

He was talking to a delegation of women assembly members of the Pakistan Muslim League-N.

He said Pakistani women were very talented and playing an important role in education, health, information technology, banking, engineering and other sectors.

He said the provincial government had taken historic decisions for development of women and protection of their rights as well as economic empowerment.

He said special centers would be set up for providing immediate justice to a women who were subjected to violence and the first center in this regard was being set up in Multan.

He said women would be deputed at these special centers and police, prosecution, medical and forensic facilities will be available under one roof at these centers.

He said that this first and unique center of South Asia will play an important role in addressing the complaints of women.

The chief minister said women played a key role in the evolution of a society as well as its development.

He said instead of sitting in their homes after completing education, women should join practical fields and contributed to national development and prosperity.

He said daycare centers were being set up in all government and non-government institutions with daycare fund while the law regarding protection of women against harassment at work place had also been enforced.

He said legislation had been undertaken to ensure the right of women in inheritance.
