Theebo suggests to designate venues for holding public gatherings

KARACHI: Additional Inspector General Police Karachi, Ghulam Qadir Theebo has sent a communication to Sindh Government suggesting to designate venues in all districts of Karachi for holding public meetings.

The Additional IG Karachi said that rallies and public meetings organised by different groups on various occasions in the metropolis endangered the security arrangements, said a statement on Tuesday.

He said that the law enforcement agencies are often kept uninformed in connection with the congregations and other public gatherings which also increases security risk.

He said that in view of apprehensions about security situation, the police and all law enforcement agencies are making active efforts to ensure protection of people.

In his communication, Ghulam Qadir Theebo has also conveyed the decisions which were taken in a meeting of zonal DIGs and SSPs regarding designating places for holding public gatherings.

Referring to decisions of the meeting, he suggested that designating venues in every district of Karachi for holding public gathering has now become need of the hour.

Through the communication, the venues including Jinnah Ground in district East, Star Gate in district Malir, Sherpao Colony in district West, Anu Bhai Park in district Central, Jahangir Park in district South and KMC Ground in district City have been proposed to be designated for holding public gatherings, accordingly, it concluded.
