ANP demands local election on party basis

PESHAWAR: The Awami National Party (ANP) Central President Asfandyar Wali Khan here Tuesday demanded for holding the local bodies' elections in Khyber Pakthunkhwa on party basis.

Addressing a press-conference here, the ANP Chief said his party would support local bodies elections on party basis. The role of political parties in education and service delivery was very important in democratic setup and urged Pakistan Tahrik e Insaf to make arrangements for local bodies elections in time on party basis.

Criticizing the PTI government, Asfandyar Wali Khan said PTI was the ever first democratic government that would go for holding local bodies' elections in the province on non-party basis, which was very astonishing for a political party came into power in KP with a slogan of change.

He said it was astonishing that PTI government was following precedence set by the dictators by holding local government elections on non-party basis.

He said LG elections on non-party basis were against the real essence of

constitution and democracy. Referring to Yemen war, the ANP Chief said we need to take every decision with collective wisdom keeping the country's national interest supreme.
