ISLAMABAD: The Government was paying a sum of Rs 477 as subsidy on each 50 kg bag of imported urea, Parliamentary Secretary for National Food Security and Research, Rajab Ali Baloch told National Assembly on Thursday.

Answering the question of Ms Nighat Parveen, he said a sum of Rs 41.3 billion subsidy has been paid in the form of feed gas.

He said the Government was striving to reduce the input of farmers, adding that he was in favour of abolishing 17 percent GST on urea. Farmers must not be punished and LNG should be given to industries.

He said the installation of solar tubewells in villages would reduce the input of urea.

To a question he said he has already talked to Chief Minister Punjab on the arrests of farmers last day. The CM ordered immediate release of the farmers.
