Ashrafi for defeating sectarianism

LAHORE: Chairman Pakistan Ulema Council Hafiz Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi has said that those who are trying to create clash between religions and sects would have to face defeat.

Talking to Muslim and Christian leaders from Sargodha here on Wednesday, he said that the culprits involved in church bombings and burning alive two persons should get punishments.

He said that if such incidents were not overcome then it would increase non-tolerance in the society.

He said that it was not only the duty of the government to ensure safety of non-muslims but muslims should also play their role for the purpose in the light of Islamic teachings.

He said that the rights of Muslims and non-muslims were defined in the constitution and Islamic teachings and the same should be provided to all citizens without any discrimination.

He also urged political and religious leaders to play their role for promotion of religious tolerance.

The visiting leaders appreciated efforts of Pakistan Ulema Council and assured their support.

PUC Secretary General Maulana Zahid Mehmood Qasmi, Maulana Ayub Safdar, Hafiz Muhammad Amjad, Maulana Shabbir Ahmad, Qari Ahmad Ali Nadeem, Maulana waqar Usmani and others were also present on this occasion.
