Thai Jan-Feb exports down 4.8pc y/y: commerce minister

BANGKOK: Thailand's exports fell about 4.8 percent in January and February combined from the same period a year earlier, the commerce minister said on Wednesday.

The global economy is not doing so well, and the value of Thai exports has fallen sharply, General Chatchai Sarikulya told reporters.

The Commerce Ministry is due to release customs-cleared trade data on Thursday. A Reuters poll of economists forecast a drop of 3.24 percent in February exports, in a further blow to the government's efforts to spur the sluggish economy.

In January, exports fell 3.46 percent year-on-year.
