ATC awards 28-years imprisonment to accused in acid attack case

LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) Tuesday awarded 28 years imprisonment to a man for attacking his estranged wife with acid.

The accused Qadeer Ahmad was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs 1.1 million.

ATC-II Judge Khawaja Zafar Iqbal announced the verdict after hearing arguments and examining evidence.

According to prosecution, Qadeer Ahmad threw acid on his estranged wife, Haseena Bibi, in Kot Abdul Malik, Sheikhupura after she refused to reconcile with him in 2014.

Haseena Bibi had contracted court marriage with her neighbour, Qadeer Ahmad, in 2013. She left him and started living with her parents after one year of their marriage.

Meanwhile, the court awarded ten years imprisonment to accused Hakim Ali in a murder case. The court also ordered accused to pay Rs 1.9 million as blood money.

According to prosecution, the accused crushed to death constable Sarwar under his rickshaw in Sherakot area here.
