Freund wins crystal globe

PLANICA: Germany's Severin Freund won his first ski jumping World Cup crystal globe Sunday by finishing seventh in the final event of the season which was won by Slovenia's Jurij Tepes.

The double world champion finished equal on 1729 points with Slovenia's Peter Prevc, who finished second on Sunday, but took the overall title after winning nine events this season to Prevc's three.

Norway's Rune Velta finished third in the final event of the winter.

Freund, 26, becomes the third German to win the crystal globe after Martin Schmitt in 1999 and 2000 and Jens Weissflog in 1984.
