KAMPALA: Uganda's inflation rose in February, inching higher on an increase in non-food prices, the Uganda Bureau of Statistics said on Friday.

The statistics office said year-on-year inflation went up to 1.4 percent from 1.3 percent in January, driven by a rise in core inflation to 3.0 percent from with 2.7 percent.

The bureau said the rise in core inflation - which excludes food, fuel, electricity and metered water - was attributed to rising prices of items like cement and education services.

Earlier this month, central bank Governor Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile said he expected core inflation to rise to between 4 and 6 percent over the next year.

On a monthly basis, the statistics office said overall inflation rose by 0.4 percent.
