ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cabinet Division to submit reply in a week over the decade long case regarding repatriation of stranded Pakistanis from Bangladesh.

The three-member bench headed by Justice Amir Hani Muslim comprising Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry and Justice Mushir Alam resumed hearing of the Stranded Pakistanis General Repatriation Committee's (SPGRC) petition.

During the proceedings, Deputy Attorney General Sohail Mahmood informed the court that the Foreign Ministry and Cabinet division were not cooperating despite several reminders.

The court directed the respective ministries to submit reply in a week or their secretaries would be summoned.

Director Cabinet Division Muhammad Aftab apprised the court that the High Court of Bangladesh had declared the stranded Pakistanis as Bengali citizens in 2003 and that decision was also upheld by the country's Supreme Court.

The case was adjourned for an indefinite period.
