2.743mnchildren vaccinated on 1st day of anti-measles campaign

LAHORE: As many as 2.743 million (2,743,000) children have been vaccinated on the first day of the anti-measles campaign.

Out of them more than 243,000 children have been vaccinated in Lahore.

This was stated by advisor to Chief Minister Punjab on Health, Khawaja Salman Rafiq while speaking at a follow-up meeting over the campaign at Civil Secretariat, here Tuesday.

This campaign would continue till February 9 during which 28.5 million children will be vaccinated, he added.

The advisor said that no leniency or slackness will be tolerated in the drive.

He said that officers should ensure reaching of vaccinating teams to every village, town, mohallah and street to inoculate anti-measles vaccine to the children of the age of six months to ten years.

He said that the government was also focusing on strengthening the routine immunization coverage to prevent children from nine different diseases.

He said that the deficiencies in the immunization system have been removed and android phones have been given to the vaccinators, through which strict monitoring is being carried out of their performance. He further disclosed that the vacant posts of vaccinators have also been filled.

Earlier, Director Health EPI Dr.Munir Ahmad informed that anti-measles campaign was successfully running all over the province, and people are bringing their children in the hospitals, health centers as well as health teams at mohallah level for inoculation of their children.

He further said that the teams were also inoculating measles vaccine to the children in primary schools.

He said that 60 percent target of the campaign would be achieved in primary schools.
