Ukraine trolleybus shelling killed eight: new toll

23 Jan, 2015

KIEV: Eight civilians died in a trolleybus shelling in Ukraine's pro-Russian rebel stronghold of Donetsk, separatist and Kiev officials said on Friday, revising down an earlier toll.

Separatist leaders had initially said Thursday's attack killed 13 people and injured about 20.

But the region's rebel-run emergencies ministry changed the figure to eight on Friday, in line with information released by the Ukrainian prosecutor general's office and monitors from the Organisation for Security and Co-cooperation Europe (OSCE).

Neither side explained what caused the initial error.
