Senate standing body chief opposes any to move to privatise PIA

KARACHI: The Chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat, Senator Kulsoom Parveen has opposed any move to privatize Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and demanded steps for revival of its lost glory.

Presiding over a meeting of the Senate body at PIA headquarters here on Friday, she said that the airline should be provided new aircraft.

She also demanded of the government to waive the interest on PIA's loans to make it financially viable.

Senator Kulsoom Parveen said that she would take up the issues of PIA on the floor of the House.

The Chairperson also assured the representatives of the various employees unions of PIA that their genuine problems would be redressed on priority basis.

The Chairperson and members of the Standing Committee also called for effective steps for further improvement in flight operation.

They assured that full support will be provided for the revival of the national airline.

Senators Dr. Saeeda Iqbal, Mir Muhammad Yousuf, Nawab Saifullah Magsi, Kamil Ali Agha and Begum Najma Hameed attended the meeting.
