LAHORE: The Lahore High Court Friday issued notices to the Petroleum Ministry and Pakistan State Oil for January 20 on a petition against shortage of petrol.

Justice Shahid Waheed issued the notices on a petition filed by Gohar Nawaz Sindhu Advocate.

Earlier, the petitioner-counsel arguing before the court submitted that it was duty of the government to ensure provision of basic necessities. However, the province had been facing shortage of petrol for the past few days, he said.

He said with the passing of time, the situation was deteriorating as majority of the fuel stations had ended their stock and had closed down.

Sindhu said people were facing hardships due to shortage of fuel in the city but the concerned were not paying heed.

He requested the court to issue directions to the respondents to take all necessary measures to restore supply of fuel without any further delay.

The court after recording initial arguments issued notices to the respondents and sought reply by January 20.
