Waseela-e-Taleem Initiative to enrol 1.5mn children in primary schools

ISLAMABAD: Waseela-e-Taleem Initiative of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) would target an enrollment of 1.5 million children in primary schools of 32 districts around the country during the next two years.

The registration of children under the Waseela-e-Taleem initiative would commence during the next month, an official of BISP informed.

The programme, recently picking up the pace, has provided fresh Debit Cards to over 70,000 beneficiaries for receiving quarterly cash benefits of Rs. 4500.

BISP has released Rs. 21.3 billion for 4.7 million beneficiary families for the second quarter of Current Fiscal Year; a figure which stood at 4.63 million in the last month.

While payment for over 22000 children at Rs. 200 per month has also been released for Waseela-e-Taleem initiative of the Programme.

BISP is also taking necessary steps including a `payment verification interface' to eliminate unnecessary delays in payments to the beneficiaries and ensure a real-time monitoring by all stakeholders of the programme.
