SC forms three benches for next week

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Nasir-ul-Mulk has constituted four benches at the principal seat to hear a number of important cases during the next week, starting from Monday (December 15).

The first bench comprising the Chief Justice, Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Mushir Alam, will hear cases, including constitutional petitions under Article 184 regarding implementation of the rights of minorities, action taken on the news clippings regarding incident of Kot Radha Kishan where a mob burnt alive Christian couple in the brick kiln, miscellaneous matters regarding use and sale of disposed of injections syringes and infected blood transfusion and Constitutional Petitions under Article 184 for appointing judicial commission to probe into the incident of murder of Ms. Parveen Rehman, social worker/ Director Orangi Project.

The second bench consisting of Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja, Justice Dost Muhammad Khan and Justice Qazi Faez Isa, will hear the cases, including constitutional petitions under Article 184 regarding unprecedented load shedding, review petitions of Ch. Monis Ilahi and Muhammad Ayaz Khan Niazi former Chairman NICL regarding violation of Public Procurement Rules, 2004 in procurement loss of billions of rupees of national exchequer case by National Insurance Company Ltd, constitutional petitions under Article 184 regarding action against distribution of development funds by former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and suo-moto action against grant of 450 & 200 illegal CNG stations licenses during the tenure of two ex-prime ministers namely Syed Yusuf Raza Gillani and Raja Pervez Ashraf respectively.

The third bench consists of Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan and Justice Umar Ata Bandial will hear the cases including election matters of different parliamentarians.

From Thursday (December 18), the formation of benches will change as the first bench would comprise of Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja and Justice Dost Muhammad Khan, while the second bench comprise of Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan and Justice Umar Ata Bandial. The third bench will comprise of Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Mushir Alam.

Besides other regular cases, the benches will also take up service matters, appeals against sentences, NAB case, tax and land matters etc.

According to cause list no adjournment on any ground will be granted and no application for adjournment through fax will be placed before the court. If the counsel is unable to appear for any reason the Advocates on record will be required to argue the case.
