Exports of sports goods increase 9pc in four months

ISLAMABAD: The exports of sports products from the country witnessed increase of 8.81 percent during the first four months of the current fiscal year compared to the corresponding period of last year.

The overall exports of sports goods were recorded at $108.366 million during July-October (2014-15) compared to the exports of $99.596 million duirng July-October (2013-14), according to the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The sports products that contribute in promoting country's trade positively included footballs, exports of which witnessed increase of 10.34 percent.

The PBS data shows that the football exports duirng the four months under review were recorded at $52.451 million compared to the exports of $47.534 million during the same period of last year.

The exports of gloves also increased by 33.36 percent by going up from $29.061 million last year to $38.756 million during the current year.

However, exports of all other sports products witnessed negative growth of 25.40 percent by falling from $23.001 million to $17.159 million, the data revealed.

Meanwhile, on year-on-year basis, the exports of sports products

increased by 36.09 percent in October 2014 to $24.593 million compared to the exports of $18.071 million in October 2013.

During the month of October, the exports of footballs increased by 638 percent while the exports of gloves decreased by 28.56 percent and other sports products by 2.71 compared to October 2013.

On month-on-month basis, the exports of sports products, however decreased by 1.95 percent by going down from $25.083 million in September 2014 to $24.593 million in October, according to the data.
