SHARJAH: New Zealand were 249-1 at close on the second day of the third and final Test against Pakistan in Sharjah on Friday.

Brendon McCullum was on an aggressive 153 and with him Kane Williamson on 76 as New Zealand now trail Pakistan's first innings total of 351 by 102 runs.

Off-spinner Mark Craig took a career-best 7-94 -- his first five-wicket haul -- to wrap up Pakistan's last seven wickets for 70 runs after they resumed at 281-3.

Opener Mohammad Hafeez made his highest Test score of 197.

In the morning players and officials from both teams observed a minute's silence and wore black armbands to join the sporting world in mourning young Australian batsman Phillip Hughes, who died on Thursday from serious head injuries after being struck by a bouncer.
