ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid on Saturday demanded the release of internally displaced persons (IDPs), who were arrested and sent to jail in Bannu.

The minister, in a statement, appreciated Chairperson National Assembly Standing Committee on Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Ms Marvi Memon's efforts and struggle for the oppressed IDPs.

Instead of apologizing for its inefficiency and poor arrangements for distribution of relief goods, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government put the hapless people, who were sacrificing for their homeland, behind bars, he regretted.

The IDPs, he demanded, should be immediately released with respect and honour, and compensated. The jail gates should be opened for them otherwise the same might be opened for putting the responsible of aid distribution mismanagement in jail, he warned.

The minister asked the KPK government to give full respect and protocol to Ms Marvi Memon, an honourable parliamentarian, who was in the province for a noble cause.

Instead of making lame excuses, he said, the KPK government should make better arrangements for the distribution of relief goods.
