PERTH: Australia made 300 for eight after losing the toss and being sent in to bat in the first one-day international against South Africa at the WACA Ground on Friday.

George Bailey top-scored for the home side with 70, including three sixes.

Vernon Philander was the best of the bowlers removing both openers in the same over and finishing with 4-45.
