ABU DHABI: Pakistan, who batted after winning the toss, closed the opening day of the first Test against New Zealand on 269-1 in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.

Ahmed Shehzad was unbeaten on 126 for his third century but Mohammad Hafeez missed his hundred by four runs as Pakistan punished New Zealand bowlers on a flat Sheikh Zayed Stadium pitch.

At close Azhar Ali was 46 not out.

Pakistan kept the same XI they played during their 356-run win against Australia at the same venue last week while New Zealand included both their spinners in the side.
